This is My Story
I’ve always had a wild imagination.
We moved around a lot when I was growing up and books were the one constant through a series of changes in towns, schools and friends. I particularly loved books that allowed me to escape into new worlds; fantasy, books that featured animal characters, books with happy endings! Favourites as a child were; Watership Down, Trixie Belden, Charlotte’s Web and anything I could get my hands on in my grandmother’s Mills and Boons bookcase.
Writing came naturally to me and I became a journalist after leaving university, working on newspapers for the next decade or so. Throughout this time I continued to write fiction, but kept the manuscripts to myself – later when working as a high school English teacher I started looking for books to read to my students that were up-to-date with Australian characters they could identify with. Books that contained all the inspiration and adventure that I had so loved at that age.
So I started reading them some of my books – and the rest, as they say, is history.
